Meet Ward Village Locals: Catherine & Bob
On any given weekend in Ward Village, you'll find Catherine and husband Bob's car parked safe, sound, and unmoving in their Hokua condominium parking garage.
The reason? Because everything they could possibly need for the weekend is mere steps away from their doorstep.
Catherine Ngo, a Central Pacific Bank executive says, "Honestly, on most weekends, once we arrive home at Ward on Friday night, my husband and I won't use the car again until Monday. Kaka'ako suits our lifestyle perfectly: we'll go to the beach, go shopping, barbecue, catch a movie, that sort of thing. My husband and I have a routine: we'll get dinner at Z Pizza before a movie, and will make an evening of it. At Z Pizza, we recently tried something new -- the 'carnivore' pizza! Neither of us have had it before and it has tons of meat, and is delicious. I highly recommend it!"
"We also go to Mocha Java Café for breakfast on the weekend, sometimes Menchie's Frozen Yogurt. We often visit the Honolulu Chocolate Company to purchase gifts and then, enjoy the window displays in the other shops. I do a lot of window shopping and make a lot of purchases," she says laughing. "My husband and I enjoy walking around and seeing what new stores have opened up in the shopping center, and new products or clothing for sale. Besides the boutiques, Bed Bath and Beyond, Nordstrom Rack, and T.J. Maxx are conveniently located here as well."
Since moving to Kaka'ako from Northern California in 2010, Catherine & Bob have been Kaka'ako locals. "We've only lived in Hawai'i for five years, but we have set down roots here," says the East Coast native.
My husband and I feel blessed to be part of the community and want now to do our part to give back however possible. I believe Ward Village has taken into consideration the impact to traffic, our schools, and the infrastructure required for a community like this. We're looking forward to seeing what the future will bring.
