In Support of the Hawai'i Foodbank

For more than three decades, the Hawai'i Foodbank has made it their mission to help end hunger in the Islands. By working with a myriad of supermarkets, wholesalers, and distributors, the Foodbank is able to connect millions of pounds of donated food to individuals and families in need across the state.

Without their help, countless residents would go hungry. In fact, according to the Foodbank, last year alone, more than 12 million pounds of food was distributed on O'ahu and Kaua'i, with a slew of other donations made across the entire state—a noble feat to say the least.

With their unwavering commitment to alleviating hunger in Hawaii in mind, the Ward Village Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated improving the quality of life in our community, was thrilled to support the Hawaii Foodbank with a monetary contribution.

"We're proud to donate financial assistance to the Hawaii Foodbank, whose work has been instrumental in providing relief to vulnerable families across our State for the last 30 years," said Todd Apo, Vice President of Community Development of The Howard Hughes Corporation. "It's core to our mission to invest in authentic, local initiatives which foster a sustainable and thriving community that benefits the island we serve.

In 2016, the Hawaii Foodbank received more than 13.7 million pounds of food in O'ahu and Kaua'i, including 3.8 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables which were inspected, sorted and distributed throughout the island. On average, 23,014 people per month received 7.6 million pounds of food during 2015-16. As Honolulu continues to evolve, it's crucial that organizations like the Hawaii Foodbank are able to continue their mission of making real, tangible change in the islands.

"We're extremely grateful for the donation from the Ward Village Foundation," said Laura Kay Rand, VP and Chief Impact Officer at the Hawaii Foodbank. "With this donation, we'll be able to produce 25,000 meals for people in need." “By supporting the Hawaii Foodbank, we are able to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable kama'aina," added Apo. "The Foodbank is at the top of their game when it comes to leading a local non-profit organization that delivers professionalism and large-scale efficiency in serving our community.”
