United By Compassion
Each and every day, the Aloha United Way reaches out a loving hand to help those enduring hardship in our island community.
For 96 years, caring for those in need has been a pillar of the the Aloha United Way's mission. Through a partnership with hundreds of nonprofit organizations, the Aloha United Way is truly making a difference and bettering the lives of our neighbors going through tough times.
As a means to showcase the tremendous work being undertaken every day here in Hawai'i, the organization and their nonprofit affiliates partnered up with a slew of local photographers to document a typical day in the life of their outreach workers. Whether it was caring for a new mother, the elderly, or anyone in between, it was all captured in a stunning and raw display of images. Once the images were compiled, they were then carefully arranged into a series of window displays entitled "A Day In The Life of Our Community." This was the second time the Aloha United Way has showcased this work and the installations, which are housed at Ward Warehouse and Ward Centre.
"The objective of the project was to capture personal and emotional moments in people's lives, as they were being changed, all of which was made possible by donations to Aloha United Way," said Cindy Adams, President and CEO, Aloha United Way. "Through this we hoped to educate our community on the importance of everyone's collective donations."
To complete this ambitious project, 40 nonprofits supported by the Aloha United Way were paired with 20 of Hawaii's most esteemed photographers. As you can imagine, the logistics of organizing such a substantial effort was an undertaking to say the least, but the end result is something that the Aloha United Way hopes will both move and influence people.
"Although all of the photos were taken during a 24-hour time period, it took months of pre- and post-coordination to finalize and complete the project," added Adams. "The objective of the project was to capture personal and emotional moments in people's lives, as they were being changed, and made possible by donations to Aloha United Way."
There's something truly heartwarming about seeing our community pool together its collective resources in a creative way that showcases the breadth of Hawai'i's Aloha Spirit.
