Whole Foods Market Now Open at Ward Village

On May 9, Ward Village is set to reach yet another milestone with the official opening of the state's flagship Whole Foods Market.

Located at Kamakee and Queen Street, the highly anticipated debut will mark an important new chapter in the development of our dynamic neighborhood. As the largest Whole Foods Market in the state, the public will find an array of exciting, delicious, and undeniably enticing offerings here that they can't find anywhere else. Below, we're excited to shine a light on a handful of the reasons the opening of the new flagship Whole Foods Market has us chomping at the bit.

Space To Move

Composed of approximately 300 team members, this market is going to impress you as soon as you walk through the doors. Of course, you'll find all of the familiar touches that are endowed upon its sister markets, but you'll find oh-so much more. In fact, this Whole Foods Market is composed of two separate floors and spans an astounding 72,000 square feet. So how do you fill that much space? Easy, you stock it with more than 900 locally made, grown, or raised-in-Hawai'i products. To boot, the market is working closely with more than 60 local suppliers to curate both the produce and floral section of the store. Not only are you going to find almost all of nature's bounty under a single roof, but when you shop at a market that's sourcing this amount of product from local farms, you're directly supporting our local economy—and that's a very good thing.

As Fresh As It Gets

Whole Foods Market is living up to the company's reputation as being the healthiest grocer in the country, and that's especially true of their seafood. Every day, representatives from the market source a large swath of the local fish from the Honolulu Fish Market, located roughly a mile down the street. So, when you order that poke bowl, you know your ahi is as fresh as can be. And while we're on the subject, customers at the new Whole Foods Market Queen can relish in a pop-up poke bar that features between seven and 15 different varieties of poke, complete with an array of topping options. No matter what you're craving on your bowl, you'll find it, fresh and delicious, right here at the new Whole Foods at Ward Village.

Return of the Mac

Whether you're looking for a grab-n-go breakfast, lunch, snack, or delectable dinner, a trip through a Whole Foods Market's hot bar never disappoints. But because this is their flagship, they're taking their hot bar(s)—yes, you read that right; there are two!—game to a whole new level. Featuring 43 hot wells, you're practically guaranteed to find a dozen mouth-watering options every time you step up to the plate, including a large variety of smoked meats and a smorgasbord of mac-n-cheese concoctions like vegan mac, pork belly mac, roasted tomato spinach mac, jalapeno mac, and brisket mac.

Can I Kick It?

Maybe you're not the cooking type or maybe your fridge is already stocked full of organic produce, fresh seafood, and a wealth of healthy snacks, but you still want to hang at one of the city's newest hot spots. Well, you're more than welcome here, friend. In fact, let's get you a drink. With more than 24 beers on tap, you'll have an opportunity to taste dozens of new brews and enjoy all of your old favorites, all hand-poured from your new favorite neighborhood bartender. And did we mention that they'll also be offering an extensive list of food options, perfect for pairing with your beer? Tempura, yakitori, a tonkatsu and kalbi-glazed burger are just a few of the options you'll have at your fingertips. So relax, now your grocery store can double as your favorite watering hole.

They're Paying It Forward

As a company, Whole Foods Market has shown that it cares about being good stewards and responsible members of the community. That's why they're pleased to host a Community Giving Day in conjunction with the opening of the new market. Five percent of the opening day's net sales will be donated to local organizations working to create a brighter future for Hawai'i, including MA'O Organic Farms. Located in Waianae, MA'O hires student interns to work on the grounds, growing organic fruits and vegetables in exchange for partial school tuition, all the while learning invaluable leadership, cultural and life lessons.
