June 28 Event to Raise Funds to Grant Wishes for Keiki with Life-Threatening Medical Conditions
Honolulu, (June 8, 2015) – Ward Village®, a community by The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC), today announced that its June edition of Courtyard Brunch will serve as a Make-A-Wish® Hawaii takeover called "Waffles for Wishes" on Sunday, June 28. The event, presented by Make-A-Wish Hawaii's Young Leaders Board in partnership with Ward Village, will serve as a benefit for Make-A-Wish Hawaii, featuring a delectable spread of local chefs, themed cocktails and live entertainment by DJ Anit.
"Today, there are about 400 wish kids and their families actively planning their wishes for the summer of 2015," said Siana Austin Hunt, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Hawaii. "This new event is a fun way to come together as a community while supporting our busiest wish-granting season – when keiki are out of school and ready to embark on their wishes."
As part of this month's Courtyard Brunch takeover, tickets (for this edition of Courtyard Brunch only) will be offered at $85 per person, with admission covering unlimited food and drink. A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will go directly back to Make-A-Wish Hawaii's wish-granting efforts.
Participating vendors include Koko Head Café, Morimoto Waikiki, MW Restaurant, The Pig & The Lady, Whole Foods Market and Kope Coffee Catering Company. Brunch cocktails will be served by Organic Ocean Vodka, Market Advantage and Starbucks. Tickets can be reserved online at wardvillageshops.com
"Each month, our Courtyard Brunch event offers a fun, social weekend activity set in our beautiful, contemporary Ward Village Information Center Courtyard," said Katie Ka'anapu, Director of Community & Retail Marketing for Ward Village. "At this special edition of Courtyard Brunch, guests will have a chance to enjoy great food and company while raising funds and awareness for Make-A-Wish Hawaii's inspiring work in our community."
Waffles for Wishes, to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, will serve as the official launch for Make-A-Wish Hawaii's newly-formed Young Leaders Board, comprised of a diverse group of professionals under 45. This event will be one of two new signature annual networking events spearheaded by the 22-member board, whose goal is twofold: to support the Make-A-Wish mission while also fostering a new space where Hawaii's young professionals can experience firsthand the essential role that non-profits play in our community.
To support the latter part of the board's goal, the Young Leaders will introduce "Heroes for Hope" at the June 28 event. Heroes for Hope is a new philanthropic society designed for the busy working professional looking to pair their for-profit experience with the Make-A-Wish mission.
Ward Village hosts several free community events throughout the year, including the Ward Village Courtyard Cinema monthly film series, the Art + Flea urban market, the Kaka'ako Farmers' Market each Saturday and more. For more information, visit www.wardvillage.com.
About Ward Village®
Developed by The Howard Hughes Corporation, Ward Village is a new 60-acre coastal master planned community in the heart of Honolulu located between downtown and Waikīkī in the Kakaʻako district. Ward Village includes two mixed-use residential towers – Waiea and Anaha – that are now under construction and will transform the popular shopping and dining district into a vibrant neighborhood that offers exceptional residences with incredible island and ocean views and a carefully curated mix of retail experiences set among dynamic public open spaces and walkable streets.
This growing community will include three additional developments: Ae'o at 1001 Queen Street, Gateway Towers and Ke Kilohana at 988 Halekauwila Street. Aeʻo at 1001 Queen Street is a 466-unit mixed-use condominium tower anchored by a flagship Whole Foods Market. The extraordinary first building of Gateway Towers on Ala Moana Boulevard will bring the architecture of world-renowned architect Richard Meier to the Honolulu skyline. Ke Kilohana will bring housing targeted for local residents and a 23,000 square foot Long's Drugs to the neighborhood.
The vision for Ward Village is consistent with the master plan approved by the HCDA in 2009, which allows for up to 9.3 million square feet of mixed-use development and will include over 4,000 residences and over 1 million square feet of retail space.
Ward Village is Hawaiʻi's only LEED-ND Platinum-Certified project and the largest neighborhood development in the country to receive such a prestigious certification. The Information Center and Residential Sales Gallery is located at the iconic IBM Building. For more information, visit www.wardvillage.com.
