Paint the Town at New Wave Friday

Honolulu’s favorite block party has teamed up with the visionary minds behind behind Pow! Wow! Hawaii to create an evening of good times, live music, shopping, and interactive art installations that’s sure to keep the neighborhood bumping well into the night. Held on February 22nd along Auahi Street, adjacent to South Shore Market, New Wave Friday is a quarterly celebration of the good life in Honolulu. And with the ninth annual POW! WOW! already upon us, what perfect way to kick back, relax, shop, and mingle than by soaking in the fun and the art at this very special event.

Guests will have an opportunity to meet and talk story with featured artists at the event, including POW! WOW! frontmen Jasper Wong and Kamea Hadar, as well as acclaimed artist Jeffrey Gress. Attendees will also find a series of live art sessions going down throughout the event as well, with the likes of 7 Sketches, Gary Draws Fish, the aforementioned Jasper Wong, and Peace Peeps all creating original work before your very eyes.

Because all parties are better with live music, New Wave Friday is thrilled to welcome back Taimane to Ward Village, who will be performing on the main stage. Additionally, the hip-hop artist Nyah will also be playing a live session for the crowd. As a family-friendly event, fun abounds for keiki at New Wave Friday. There’s no need to stress here. You can kick back and enjoy the night while your children tap into their creative side with special large-format chalk art installations.

Looking to unwind after a long week of work? New Wave Friday holds true to our pau hana roots and will feature a series of outdoor bars, offering a lineup of frosty, refreshing pours and crafty cocktails. We welcome you to sip on some suds, meander the grounds, and enjoy a winter’s night in Honolulu while vibing with local artists. And did we mention that there will be multiple food trucks along both ends of the event, ready to cure all your culinary cravings?

For all you savvy shoppers out there, Hawai‘i’s favorite outdoor market, Art + Flea, will once again be setting up shop along Auahi Street. With the likes of Kulia Clothing Co., Ano Swimwear, Big Bad Wolf, and Margaret Rice Studio to name just a few, you’ll find local makers offering their unique merchandise in an atmosphere that’s truly second to none. And with plenty of complimentary parking, New Wave Friday makes kicking and going out easy. Don’t miss out.
