Slide Down to New Wave Friday
Here in sunny Honolulu, there are a myriad of ways we celebrate summer.
Some people make a daily beeline for the sand and surf at Ala Moana Beach Park. Night owls might prefer dinner at Nobu and late-night live music downtown to follow. Here at Ward Village, we like to celebrate summer with a party—a block party, that is! New Wave Friday , a family-friendly event featuring activities, shopping exclusives, food, libations, and live entertainment, is coming up on Friday evening, August 17 at South Shore Market and you won't want to miss it.
This summer's New Wave Friday, in theme with The Summer Slide, is a celebration of surf stoke and summer vibes that only a tropical seaside city like Honolulu could produce. Why Summer Slide, you ask? The Hawaiians of old called surfing he'e nalu, or "wave sliding." Sliding is not only a great way to describe how surfers ride the face of a wave, but it also complements a beachy summer vibe, sliding effortlessly and freely from one activity to another.
You'll find pop-ups a plenty at our Summer Slide themed New Wave Friday, including our new surf-inspired gallery, Water and Light, featuring photographers Daniel Fuller and Zak Noyle. In addition to the gallery, there will be a Q/A and autograph session at the exhibit where surf and art fans alike can talk story with the photographers. Also, be sure to check out the in-store pop-up at Kealopiko, which will be stocked with native Hawaiian plants and Kealopiko-styled pot covers. And make sure you RSVP in advance, because the first 100 people to check-in at Ward Centre next to Red Pineapple will receive a voucher for a limited edition T-shirt designed by Salvage Public.
Lucky you! Activities, good times, and great deals can be found around each and every corner at New Wave Friday. Slide, ride, or drive down to South Shore Market and be the first to check out one of the new eco-friendly fleet vehicles from Hui, a brand new round-trip, station-based car share program in the islands. And of course. this ride even has surf racks. No matter if you opt to Biki, hui, walk, drive, or slide, just make sure you're headed to Ward Village this Friday.
For art lovers, visit Art Explorium's Earth-friendly summer-themed art activity station, free for keiki, or translate your summer vibe onto canvas as you paint an exclusive design by visual artist Boz Schurr. Mori by Art + Flea is offering a variety of specially designed prints by artist Tommy Hite to screen print on a T-shirt for only $20.
South Shore Market vendors are handing out summer specials to keep the good vibes rolling. Clothing boutique Eden in Love is loving their Hawai'i designers and offering 25 percent off any item in their lines. Flotsam & Co is giving away a midi, wave, or hammer ring with a $100 purchase. Get mystic at Sedona with flash psychic readings for $20, or check out the relaxation station and energy balancing sessions for just $15.
In celebration of the season, specials abound at Ward Centre. With their iconic, vivid and retro-inspired threads, Jams World has been a mainstay in the islands for decades and on New Wave Friday, you can take an additional 20 percent off sale items. To boot, Noa Noa is offering a 30 percent off swimwear sale, and Jewelry Plus Hawaii has an incredible, buy one get one 50 percent off of equal or lesser value promotion.
