The Perfect Day in Ward Village
A perfect day in Ward Village begins with the perfect cappuccino (or tea), and when you're craving the best coffee on the island, only Brue Bar will do.
As you make your way past The Wedding Café, the savory scent of freshly ground espresso beans instantly warms you. You decide on one of their delicious pastries to pair with your morning coffee and take a comfortable seat inside the cafe. As you watch the city come to life, you begin plotting your next move. As it turns out, there's a touch of swell on the South Shore and you're yearning to test out your new surfboard from Town and Country Surf. You let the last sip of cappuccino linger on your tongue, finish off your pastry, and head across the street to Ala Moana Bowls.
After you've finished your coffee, you walk back to your Ward Village condo check the waves on the South Shore Surf Cam and grab your board. Just a short walk from your home, you make your way to Ala Moana Bowls. From the lush lawn on Magic Island, you can see lines of swell, marching toward the
reef at Bowls. The waves almost look like a battalion of soldiers, keeping perfect cadence as they make their to their destination. As you take in the conditions, you can't help but smile—there's only a handful of people in the water. Quickly, you wax up your new board and head into the surf. As you inch closer to the lineup, you're met with the view of unblemished head-high waves reeling across the famed reef. And for the next hour and a half, you relish in some of the finest conditions you've found all year.
With your arms weighing heavy and your wave quota full, you make your way back to the beach park where you shower off, change, and head back to the village. Back at Ward, you remember that Mom's birthday is just around the corner. And when it comes to gifts for her, you know she adores unique things that no one else has - so you head to Red Pineapple at Ward Centre. Inside, you meander through the array of items until you come across the perfect gift, Ili Coffee Body Scrub. On the your way to Ward Warehouse, you stop in at Miemiko for a one-of-a-kind card and to have your gift expertly wrapped.
Next up, you're on the hunt for something to spruce up your house and you know that Mori will have just the thing. Inside, the store's friendly owner, Aly Ishikuni, shows you a new selection of air plants that have just arrived. This will look perfect by the kitchen, you tell yourself. With your new air plant in tow, you realize that all this surfing and shopping has you starved. And nothing sounds better to you right now than sushi. You ring up your special someone to see if they're free. As fate would have it, they're in the neighborhood and can meet you at Ginza Sushi in 10. Once seated, you and yours opt for the omakase sushi set and are not disappointed. Bright red ahi, tamago, and a sea of other nigiri is neatly displayed before you. You dive right in, grinning with every delicious bite you take.
With lunch finished, you take a leisurely stroll through the village, marveling at the new towers that are quickly coming to life. The neighborhood is really taking shape, you tell yourself. Once you've walked off lunch, you realize that you only have a few minutes to spare before the start of your yoga session at Core Power. For the rest of the afternoon, you're going to sweat, stretch, and relax your body. By the end of the class, you've never felt better. After you've freshened up at home, it's time to meet up with a few old friends for cocktails. Although there are a litany of places to choose from, tonight you're craving Kincaid's, an age-old favorite. Dinner, as you've come to expect from Kincaid's, doesn't disappoint and the ahi furikake was a favorite at the table. From your table at the balcony, you watch as the sun dips into the horizon behind Kewalo Harbor, turning shades of purple, orange, and red. As the day comes to a close, you take a moment to reflect on yet another perfect day in Ward Village. With any luck, tomorrow might be even better.
