#WeAreWard: Ed Taguba on Ward Village
Photos by Ed Taguba
Originally hailing from the quaint, slow-paced Island of Lana'i, Edward Taguba is now in love with all things Honolulu.
Having lived on O'ahu for well over a decade, Taguba—who works in software and social media—knows exactly what makes this city so special. And while Honolulu may hold multiple charming neighborhoods, in his eyes, none of them can hold a candle to Ward. In the interview below, Taguba details the many facets of Ward Village that make it so special.
What is it about Ward Village that you love so much?
It's tough to pick just one thing, but for me it's the fact that there's always something happening here. There's always something exciting going on and something new. Whether it's discovering a new restaurant or visiting a favorite shop, I just love spending my time here and always leave Ward happy.
If you had to a pick a favorite thing to do in Ward Village, what would it be? >
I'm a foodie so I love to try new things to eat. I'd have to say eating at Ward Village would be one of my favorite things to do. If I'm looking to go out and enjoy a really nice meal, I'll eat at Ryan's Grill. I've been going there for years and it's always amazing. I also love the food at Dave and Busters. And, of course, you can never go wrong with Big City Diner—I'll often go there for a late-night dinner or following a movie.
Of all those restaurants you mentioned, do you have a favorite?>
I really don't think I could pick just one. They're all great for different reasons and depending on what kind of food I'm craving. You definitely can't go wrong with any of them.
Do you have a favorite place to shop at Ward?
Again, that's a hard one because there's so many places to shop. I like Red Pineapple because they always have interesting and unique things. I also really love Island Soap and Candle Works. I love that they make all of their products right there at the store and I get just about all of my soap from them. I also love to see all of the different art and photography exhibits displayed at the different stores and galleries as well.
How often do you come to the village? >
Whenever I have some free time, I'll head down to Ward. Sometimes, I like to just stroll through the neighborhood. Typically, I'll get some shopping done, look at all of the new buildings going up, and grab a bite to eat. It's just exciting to be down there watching it all happen.
How do you feel about the upcoming developments, restaurants, and shops in the area?
I think it's great for the future of Honolulu and is really exciting. Between the new residential developments, shops, and restaurants, there's just so much happening. I've taken the tour and learned about how Ward is going to connect everything together, and I think it's amazing. It's going to be huge for the city. They've really taken the time to include the community and I think that's what has me so excited about the future. They've shown that they support the existing community, and I think that's why the community is supporting them.
