Welcome to Anaha
Under a picture-perfect October sky, Ward Village reached a significant milestone recently when Anaha, the second residential tower to be completed in the community, officially opened to the public and residents.
Sophisticated, elegant, and offering a wealth of amenities, Anaha is redefining the way we live in Honolulu. And on the day of its official opening, members of the community, residents, and cultural representatives alike gathered together to take part in a traditional Hawaiian blessing. Marked with a Hawaiian prayer and a traditional chant conducted in front of the tower, residents and community members reflected on this new chapter in Ward Village.
"We talk a lot about transforming vision into reality and with the opening of Anaha, we're marking a proud moment for our community," said Todd Apo, Vice President of Community Development for Ward Village. "With the opening of this tower, we're seeing the vision of a vibrant lifestyle become reality. Residents and visitors alike will enjoy a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood connecting them to a bevy of dining, shopping and entertainment options. Whether it's meeting friends at a nearby café or enjoying a family outing, Ward Village offers something for everyone."
On the day of the opening, roughly half of the residents received the keys to their new homes. For Anaha resident Cindi Andern, the convenience of living at Anaha is something she's eagerly anticipating. "I'm really looking forward to having everything at my fingertips. I can go grocery shopping, pick up coffee, do yoga, go to the beach, go shopping and take my dog, Max, to the park...all without having to ever get into my car. I'm so excited about today and can't wait to move in."
Designed by award-winning architecture firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz, in partnership with Honolulu-based Benjamin Woo Architects, Anaha features 317 units offering some of the most jaw-dropping views of city and surrounding coastline you'll find anywhere in Honolulu. From a design standpoint, the building is a true work of art and manages to offer inspiring modern lines, countless amenities, and a true sense of place. According to Strachan Forgan of SCB Architecture, when designing the building, the architects sought to blend the urban surroundings of Honolulu with the natural beauty of the land, all in an effort to create something truly special. "The architectural form draws inspiration from both the urban context and the coastal location. Abstractions of waves are common in the islands' artistic traditions and wave motifs are often used to adorn treasured artifacts. The tower's shape is derived from a sequence of interlocking and alternating softly curved floor plates, wrapped in a smooth glass skin. The composition is reminiscent of the play between the crests and troughs of a calm ocean wave. And like a wave, the reflection of light off the façade will constantly alter as the viewpoint and environmental conditions change."
In addition to being an architectural gem, Anana will become a hub for the community and will feature O'ahu's first Merriman's restaurant. Located on the ground floor of the building, famed chef Peter Merriman's signature establishment will showcase island-grown and harvested foods through simple preparations that reflect the myriad flavors of Hawai'i's multiculturalism. The building is also home to the state's largest living wall, and in the not-too-distant future, an array of new shops will occupy the ground floor spaces and a nearby flagship Whole Foods is slated to open next year.
"A lot of people and a lot of hard work came together to make this day happen and to open Anaha. This was a huge project for us and it was an amazing experience.," added Apo. "We really are making a difference in our community and are reshaping urban Honolulu and Kaka'ako. We want to thank all of the people who came together to make this day possible."
