To honor Juneteenth, Ward Village donated to the Alice Augusta Ball Endowed Scholarship at the University of Hawaiʻi. As the first African American female graduate and Chemistry Instructor at the University of Hawaiʻi, Alice Augusta Ball was the first person in the world to develop the most effective treatment for Hansen’s disease or leprosy. This scholarship in her memory allows for underrepresented students to pursue degrees in chemistry, biology, and microbiology at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
