Hawaii Polo: An Encore Match with Ward Village

Polo, the riveting sport of pony and rider, has long been a favorite on the islands, arriving here in 1880 before even reaching the mainland United States.
On Oahu, two clubs play matches seasonally on the North Shore as well as at the Waimanalo Polo Field, a green expanse framed by the lush Ko‘olau mountain range on one side and waves lapping at a sandy beach on the other. The intensity of the riders and the grace of their mounts as they thunder across the field are offset during the matches by cheering crowds, which at times have included over 4,000 spectators. On Saturday, November 15, Ward Village, Dawson Media, and Hawaii Polo Life are hosting an exclusive encore polo match for Ward Village buyers and select VIP at the Waimanalo Polo Field, an elite opportunity showcasing one of the many events and views Oahu has to offer.
Throughout the polo season (which varies according to club; there are two on Oahu, one on Maui, and one on Hawaii Island), both local fans and international jetsetters enjoy Hawaii polo matches for the casual setting and engaging game, the weather that is perfectly sunny and the drinks that are always cold. Countless dignitaries have visited the islands because of the incredible location and the unique brand of polo played here—last year, the Maharaja of Jodhpur, a highly recognized steward of the arts in India and beyond, even visited the islands through the sport.
With players, both professional and amateur, who travel the world to play and promote polo, the sport has its own worldwide network. Teams share cultures, customs, and the unique settings in which their matches take place, acting as ambassadors as well as athletes. In Hawaii, polo brings the east and west together in the middle of the Pacific. Teams travel far and wide for matches and celebrations afterwards, and audiences come from far and wide to watch and enjoy. This Saturday, Ward Village is eager to showcase the very best players and ponies in Hawaii, who will square off as Ward Village Gold versus Ward Village Black for the encore match. With live music, a DJ, spirits, and elegant food to match, and a gala in advance of the game, the country doesn't get much better than this.
