Katie Ka‘anapu Is A Woman Who Means Business
Photos by Mark Kushimi
With more than 12 years of experience to her name, her achievements in the fields of marketing, public relations, sales production, and retailers relations speak for itself—not to mention the visionary long-term plan for Ward Village she's implemented as The Howard Hughes Corporation's Director of Community and Retail Marketing.
Pacific Business News recognizes her drive, creativity, and passion in the field with the quite aptly named Women Who Means Business Awards. Of the 140 nominated, just 15 were chosen - an honor of which includes Katie.
For anyone who's worked with her over the years, for any length of time, this doesn't come as a surprise. Katie's stellar work ethic and dedication to community is a noticeable source of inspiration to anyone who's had the pleasure of doing business with her. Just ask them and they'll gladly tell you themselves...
The Women Who Mean Business recognition really speaks to Katie's efforts to collaborate across all audiences. She genuinely cares about building a relevant, dynamic and vibrant Ward Village community. Her work on the Ward Village Foundation is just one example of the many ways that she personally and professionally invests in the community at large.
"We are very proud of all of Katie's accomplishments in the last year and all of us who work with her know what a great asset she is to Ward Village," says David Striph, the Senior Vice President of Howard Hughes Hawai'i Division.
"Katie is a great person and critical to the success of our organization and efforts," Race Randle, Senior Director of Development, said. "Her presence and grace represent our brand and company well and we are lucky to have a talented person such as Katie on our team."
"Katie is a great collaborator who understands the value of working as a team to develop a vision for each project she is involved with. At the same time, she is incredibly skilled and determined in executing that vision," Senior Vice President Nick Vanderboom said. "She possesses that rare mix of vision and execution, which makes her unique and a great asset to our team at Ward Village."
Now in its 17th year, the Pacific Business News's 2015 Women Who Mean Business awards ceremony will take place next month on April 16th at the Royal Hawaiian. Ho'omaika'i 'ana, Katie!
Images of Katie were done by local photographer Mark Kushimi. Kushimi is also the editor-in-chief and creative director of the locally based quarterly publication, Contrast Magazine. His background in architecture and design, as well as his reputation for impeccable composition and masterful usage of light in film, made selecting him to photograph Katie indisputable. For this particular series he used a Hasselbald 501c on Kodak Portra 800 120mm and a Leica MC of Kodack Portra 800 35mm film.
