The Wave of the Future
Held on the second Friday of every month at Ward Village, New Wave Friday has quickly become the city's favorite place to kick back, relax, and pau hana with friends. Featuring craft cocktails, a plethora of food options, and special in-store sales (not to mention Art + Flea will be posting up on the grounds as well) you'd be hard pressed to find a better way to ring in the weekend. And this September 8, from 5 to 9 pm, we're bringing the fun once again. In anticipation of Friday night, we tapped the shoulders of four Ward Village merchants to get the inside scoop on what they have in store for the big night.
South Shore Market
Locally owned and grown, Cameron Hawai'i embraces life in the islands. As a resort line geared toward women with a penchant for adventures in paradise, Cameron Hawai'i has built a solid following since they launched in 2007. From their first brick-and-mortar location in South Shore Market, Cameron's carefree and hip vibes capture the essence of the good life in Hawai'i and is always a great place to post up during New Wave Friday. To celebrate the event, they'll be serving champagne and chocolate to customers, as well as hosting Betty Guerre of AIM HI natural skincare products, for a special pop-up shop.
MORI by Art + Flea
South Shore Market
Aly Ishikuni, founder of the ultra-hip boutique MORI by Art + Flea, is a leading figure in Honolulu's creative scene. From her South Shore Market storefront, Aly has been a tireless advocate for small businesses for years, ushering new lines into the limelight and introducing Hawai'i to a litany of new clothing and home accessory goodies. This New Wave Friday, MORI will be hosting a children's sewing class in partnership with Love + Monsters to celebrate the weekend. The classes, which will be free and open to the public, are a perfect way to get your keiki crafty while you shop your way through MORI's showroom. To boot, Art + Flea will also welcome local hip-hop crew Blank Canvas to South Shore Market for a special show.
For nearly three decades, Sedona has been an integral member of the Ward Village community. Located in Ward Centre, this unique retail destination encourages customers to get lost amid their eclectic merchandise, and potentially, find themselves. In addition to the hard-to-find jewelry, candles, Feng Shui items, rare stones and thousands of other pieces, Sedona is renowned for their metaphysical offerings, which include psychic readings and an array of classes that include teachings on henna body art and aromatherapy to name just a few. On New Wave Friday, they'll be hosting a Psychic Fair, complete with 10-minute flash reading for as little as $20. The classes are on first-come-first-serve basis.

As one of the most cutting edge men's lines coming out of Hawai'i today, the crew behind Salvage Public has helped to usher the islands into a new realm in the fashion world. And on New Wave Friday, they'll be showcasing their latest line of Japanese denim at their South Shore Market boutique. To mark the occasion, Salvage will be offering custom embroidery on all denim items purchased from the new line during New Wave Friday. Worried about what to get embroidered? Take the advice from the boys at Salvage Public and keep it simple by going with your initials.
