Three Ways to Fall for Fall

Photos by Drew Farwell

While it may be sweater weather on the Mainland, we're celebrating the changing the season in our own unique way here in the Islands.

Because there's no doubt about it, fall is an amazing season in Hawai'i, chock full of laughter-inducing, blood-pumping adventures. Take a look at our list of upcoming fall festivities, mark your calendars, and join us as we relish the season in the best way we can—by having a whole lotta fun.

Surf Country's First Swell

And just like that, the fabled reefs of O'ahu's North Shore have come alive. Every year, just as summer begins to wane and autumn takes root, the North Shore kicks into high gear and begins producing sashimi-grade surf for the foreseeable future. Only one problem: the entire surfing world will soon descend, en masse, upon the Seven Mile Miracle, congesting the lineups to a choking point. But lucky for you, they're not here yet...but you are. So go make the drive up north and get a few gems before the crowd arrives. After all, you're living in surfing's version of Eden, shouldn't you make the most of it?

Hike a Hidden Trail

You may have noticed but we do appreciate a good hike. And no, we're not dangling off the face of a cliff in search of a hair-razing selfie, but we sure do love to get outside with friends and just walk through nature. And because there's no shortage of breathtaking trails to trek, we're always primed to uncover a new hike. Like the Aihualama Trail, adjacent to Manoa Falls, for example. In a matter of moments, you can leave the hustle and bustle of Honolulu behind, trading it in for a lush, not-too-difficult hike that serpentines through the mountains and bamboo forests that overlook Honolulu, all of which yields a perfect half-day getaway.

Trick or Treat in the Neighborhood

There's no denying that Honolulu loves Halloween. And there's a decent chance we're going to work wearing our costume. But when it comes to celebrating one of our favorite holidays with the 'ohana, we head to the shops at Ward Village. Safe, fun, and with a host of shops offering treats, a night spent trick or treating in Ward has become a tradition for many of Honolulu's families. With plenty of free parking, tons of candy for trick or treaters, and a safe environment, the entire squad (pups included, remember: we're pet-friendly) will be over the moon this Halloween when you post up at Ward Village.
