Ward Village Brunch For The Make-A-Wish Foundation
Surrounded by a mix of Honolulu's most respected chefs dishing up a medley of delectable brunch-themed courses, hundreds of hungry patrons gathered in the Courtyard of Ward Village's IBM building to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Under the catchy tag of "Waffles for Wishes," this latest installment of Ward Village's monthly Courtyard Brunch series presented guests with an array of mouth-watering fare and mid-morning cocktails this past Sunday in an effort to raise money for a very worthy cause. Backed by the Honolulu chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Young Leaders Board of Honolulu, Waffles for Wishes raised more than $40,000 that will be used to grant wishes to children facing life-threatening medical conditions.
Complete with some guests draped in hero-style getups and hosted by local television personalities Kelly Simek and Taizo Braden of KHON news, the turnout was nothing short of inspirational. Ward Village's Katie Ka'anapu, who helped organize the event, expressed her admiration for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. According to Ka'anapu the brunch was about having a great time, but all the while raising money for a very important cause. "You get to mix and mingle and hear some of these stories that really tug at your heart. It just makes the event that much more special."
Supported by local culinary hot shots like Bread+Butter, Morimoto Waikiki, MW Restaurant, The Pig & The Lady, Koko Head Café, Liliha Bakery and Whole Foods Market Kahala, guests at the event were privy to a seemingly endless array of tasty concoctions. The party was backed with endless mimosas, a Bloody Mary bar, and an Irish coffee station, which reinforced the event's mantra that you can have a great time, while supporting a great cause.
From all accounts, the first ever Waffles for Wishes was a tremendous success. "We wanted to create a different experience than a lot of us were used to; we wanted to create an environment that was really fun, chic, and to be able to partner with Ward Village and host the event at IBM building's courtyard seemed like a perfect fit," said Melialani James of the Young Leaders Board who spearheaded the brunch. "We're thrilled with the results."
