Waiea Groundbreaking and Blessing
Waiea's groundbreaking has been long awaited, and this ceremony not only marked this momentous occasion but also thanked those who have supported the progress of the community and helped to ensure that the vision becomes a reality.
The morning gathering on June 7 included a traditional Hawaiian blessing of the future location of Waiea, and the first moment that ground was broken for the construction of the tower.
The o'o used for the groundbreaking were created by youth at KUPU, a local nonprofit that trains the next generation in natural resource management and energy conservation who Ward Village has worked closely on many projects with over the last year. Members of the community, community leaders, Howard Hughes Corporation staff, cultural descendants of the area, Ward Village owners, and supporters of Ward Village attended the event, and each received native Hawaiian plants as a tribute to Waiea's translation, "Water of Life." It was a touching ceremony, and you can join the experience via the shared video of the occasion.
To learn more about Waiea visit the Ward Village Sales Center daily from 10:00am - 5:00pm.
