Home Sweet Home
Designing and building a modern high-rise residential tower is no small task.
It takes communication, creativity, and coordination between intrepid stakeholders to go from concept, to cornerstone, to someone's "home sweet home." But the evolution from completed structure to comfy home isn't a stroke of luck, it's achieved through the keen, design-oriented eye of a professional interior designer.
Enter Lauren Rottet, of the famed Rottet Studio.
Founder of her namesake International architecture and design firm, the studio was tapped to find the perfect balance of modern, cozy, smart, and life-ready to capture the zeitgeist of Ward Village's newest residential tower, 'A'ali'i. Conveniently situated to stand adjacent to Ae'o and Whole Foods, the 42-story 'A'ali'i residential tower will feature 751 progressive studios, one-, and two-bedroom homes, just steps away from Honolulu's world-class beaches, fine dining, entertainment, shopping, and the proposed rail line. Through minimalistic and modern design, coupled with turnkey innovation and smarter living solutions, Lauren Rottet, Rottet Studio's president and founding principal, artfully executed her passion and desire to improve people's lives through well-designed spaces.
With the support of her expert team, it's no accident that Rottet was able to create a unique living experience in the heart of busy Honolulu. In 2008, onboarding like-minded architects and designers that she has collaborated with for over two decades, she founded her studio and the panel of principals share Lauren Rottet's penchant for minimalist and modern design, as well as an overall complete care for precise details, no matter what is being designed. Through this lens, Rottet has given 'A'ali'i its purpose and personality, bringing the structure to life for its future residents.
"The homes in 'A'ali'i will have a lot of detail that you won't see anywhere else," Rottet says. "The longer you stay in there, the more you will see it and the more you will discover it." Rottet calls this sensation "elegant moments."
In the design process, her team painstakingly addressed every detail of the public and private spaces, from the entryways and landscaping to the corridors and front doors. Inside the homes, every element is inviting to the eye, providing an overall enlightening effect. The kitchens are light in character with white, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, which lends vibrancy and freshness to each space. Built-in appliances are hidden away, and in the studio homes, the desk and Murphy bed fold away with ease. Sleek and modern furniture and Hawai'i-inspired decorations complement the well-lit spaces, making them feel roomy and comfy.
Specializing in corporate and hospitality projects for the world's leading companies and brands—and consistently ranked among Top 100 Design Giants by Interior Design magazine—Rottet Studios was right at home designing this modern masterpiece of urban residential living. "We thought about how you would actually live in the space," Rottet says. "If someone says smarter living then instantly you think about technology, but people are starting to curate more and leave more behind. What they do want with them has to be really suited to a space, and it can actually feel larger and provide more than a larger space that hasn't been as well thought out."
Known as an innovator in the international world of architecture and interior design, Rottet has instilled each 'A'ali'i home with timeless, modern design elements. The result is a comfortable and inviting feeling that still leaves each space primed for whatever style or personality you bring to the home.
