Standing with victims and survivors everywhere, we say no more to domestic violence and abuse with Hawai'i Says NO MORE—an initiative where more than 12 local NGOs unite to build a stronger community around these "private" issues by bringing them into the "public" sphere.
In Hawai'i alone, one in seven women have been afflicted with sexual assault and over 50,000 women suffer from domestic abuse. For the entire week, the former IBM Building has been lit up blue to shine a light on this staggering statistic.
David Striph, Senior Vice President of The Howard Hughes Corporation Hawai'i, serves as the chair of the 2015 Hawai'i March for Babies. On Saturday, April 25, more than 64,000 walkers, sponsors, donors, and volunteers will come together at Kapi'olani Beach Park in an effort to one day guarantee the absolute heath of every keiki born every day. All the funds raised will be donated to research and programs spearheaded by the March of Dimes helping mothers complete full-term pregnancies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. With everyone's help this can hopefully become a reality in the very near future.
The Howard Hughes Corporation at Ward Village will have a team tent set up by the Kapi'olani Park bandstand for employees and their families participating the day of. For those who can't physically make it, they can still show their support by joining The Howard Hughes Corporation's team page, setting up a customizable donor page, and letting everyone in their networks know about this important initiative.
March is National Kidney Month, which brings awareness to the 31 million Americans living with chronic kidney disease, who are in need of treatment and our support. For the remainder of the month, The Howard Hughes Corporation goes orange, standing in solidarity with the National Kidney Foundation of Hawai'i.
The Ward Village Foundation's second set of grant recipients for 2014 are close to being announced! This permanent non-profit awards funds to local businesses and non-government organizations that exhibit forward-thinking initiatives in their service to community. Totaling $1 million in grants, we can't wait to reveal these amazing entities and individuals with an inspiring event next month. Stay tuned!
