#WeAreWard: Leah and Larry Chun
#WeAreWard is the communal tale of those who are in Ward every day, defining the neighborhood and its experience - inspiring entrepreneurs, tastemakers, trendsetters and everyday people. This is a place of creation, inspiration, motivation.
Leah and Larry Chun are die-hard fans of Ward Village. As young professionals who live in the surrounding neighborhood, they'll often find themselves spending a morning, evening, or an entire day in the village. Ward's become such an important place to them that they recently shot their engagement photos right here are at Ward Village. In the interview below, we caught up with Leah, 28, to find out what makes Ward such a special place to her.
Well, my husband Larry and I live nearby and we love shopping, eating, and hanging out in Ward Village. There are so many things to do at Ward that we'll often find ourselves spending the entire day there. We love the place so much that we actually shot our engagement photos there. It's a special place for us.
Yeah, I know. It seemed like a great idea as we spent so much of our time there and nearby at Kewalo Basin. We took some photos near the theater, on the second floor near the bridge at Ward Warehouse and some great ones across the shoreline at Kewalos.
Do you two have a shop or restaurant?
Hmm. That's hard to say. We love the happy hour at Ryan's Grill and Kincaids. Plus, Goma Tei and Agu are always hard to turn down when we're craving ramen. You really can't go wrong with any of those places.
What would you recommend for someone looking for something special to do at Ward?
I think Ward is actually a really great place for a date night. There's Dave and Busters and then you have the movie theatre, right next door. We like to go to happy hour, catch a movie, and then wander through all the stores. It's a great place to go on a date because there's so much you can explore!
There's a lot of change happening at Ward. Are you excited to see the new developments?
Totally. I'm really excited for the Whole Foods. We have just about everything here, but we don't have a great grocery store…yet. But that's changing with Whole Foods and I think people are really gonna love it. Plus, with all of the new condos going up, you're gonna see a lot of young business people living here. We actually went to the Courtyard Brunch at the IBM building and were able to see some of the planned condos and we were really impressed.
