Project to Introduce One‐Acre Public Park, Residences and Retail to Ward Village

HONOLULU (November 25, 2014) – The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC) today received approval from the Hawai'i Community Development Authority for its Ward Village Gateway project. The project is the first residential and commercial development project in Phase Two of the Ward Village Master Plan, 'ewa of the Waiea project along Ala Moana Boulevard. Ward Village Gateway will include a one‐acre public park and two mixed‐use towers with approximately 236 total residences and approximately 20,000 square feet of retail along Auahi Street.

"The first phase of our master plan is bringing significant economic growth and new community amenities to the neighborhood, furthering our mission of revitalizing and enhancing this growing community," said Nick Vanderboom, Senior Vice President of Development of Ward Village. "The Ward Village Gateway project will connect the community from mauka to makai with the introduction of a new public park, helping to realize our vision for an integrated, sustainable neighborhood that provides a gathering place for all of Honolulu."

Ward Village Gateway will be designed by internationally recognized architects Richard Meier & Partners in collaboration with executive architect, Architects Hawaii, and a team of local consultants. The project includes a one‐acre public park that will serve as the start of a planned four‐acre public park that will open up a pedestrian connection from the heart of Ward Village to the center of Kewalo Basin Harbor. The park will include water elements flowing towards the ocean, public seating, native plants and walking pathways. Ward Village Gateway is part of Phase Two of the Ward Village Master Plan, which also includes a flagship 50,000 square foot Whole Foods Market and additional retail space.

The long‐term 60‐acre Ward Village master plan strives to create one of the best neighborhoods in the world while celebrating the land's rich history and authentically reflecting the spirit of Hawai'i. Ward Village will offer a better quality of life for all with pedestrian friendly streets, a carefully curated selection of local and national retailers, beautiful open spaces and both market‐rate and workforce residences. With sustainable development at its core, Ward Village is the largest LEED‐ND (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development) Platinum‐Certified neighborhood in the United States and the first of its kind in Hawai'i.

Ward Village is Hawaiʻi's only LEED-ND Platinum-Certified project and the largest neighborhood development in the country to receive such a prestigious certification.
