Ward Village® Slides into Summer with Launch of New Series

Collection of Surf Photography, Foam Art, Film and Events Inspired by Oahu’s South Shore

HONOLULU (June 27, 2018) – Ward Village®, a 60-acre master-planned community by The Howard Hughes Corporation® (NYSE: HHC), presents The Summer Slide, a collection of free community events which will run all summer long. Inspired by the ancient Hawaiian art of heʻe nalu, or “wave sliding,” the series celebrates the art of surfing through photography, art, film, music and an end-of-summer event which will close a portion of Auahi Street in the heart of Ward Village.

Starting Thursday, June 28, Ward Village will pay homage to three bygone eras of surfing in Honolulu with a vintage photography and surfboard-design exhibit. The gallery will feature some of the most emblematic images of surf photography from the 1960s, 70s and 80s – along with the leading board designs of the respective era.

In addition to showcasing the art of surf, a line-up of award-winning documentaries will screen under the stars, including two titles “Beyond the Surface” and “Given,” directed by Hawaiʻi-based filmmakers.

“I’m thrilled Ward Village has the opportunity to pay tribute to these momentous eras of surfing along Oʻahu’s south shore and to share this collection of iconic art with the community, “said Todd Apo, Senior Vice President of Community Development at The Howard Hughes Corporation. “Be it through design, food, art or fashion our reverence for the ocean influences how we shape Ward Village.”
