Hawaiian Fishpond By Hiroki Morinoue

1020 Auahi Street

Overview

At the center of the mauka park is Hawaiian Fishpond, a bespoke, inlaid mosaic tile art installation by artist Hiroki Morinoue, who was born and raised in Holualoa on Hawaiʻi Island. Spanning approximately 50 feet in diameter, the circular mosaic is designed as a traversable and experiential space inspired by traditional Hawaiian fishponds, which are culturally and ecologically significant and cultivated to foster customary and sustainable fishing practices across generations. Layered ripples within the artwork reference both tidal movement and the generational impact of Victoria Ward and her seven daughters, creating a peaceful focal point within the park.
